This blog is designed to encourage men who are facing divorce and separation from their kids. This is the most painful part of divorce, but it doesn't mean that you can't be a real "Dad". As I create blog entries, the topics will cover decisions I made that worked for me, and I like to think for my daughters as well.
My hometown is Grand Rapids, MI, where I met the woman I married, and after a few years, we had our first child, a lovely daughter. Close upon her arrival, we discovered that she was going to be a big sister - and we had our second daughter. This was the best surprise a man could ever hope for. We divorced when the girls were young. It was a tough decision to get a divorce.
After the divorce, I decided to go to grad school, which was about 1,000 miles away from my hometown. As time goes on, I'll probably have posts about how I was able to still be their Dad, even though I was away. This was challenging, and became even more so in that I had planned to return to Grand Rapids, but that never happened.
Years went by, and now I am a professor at a regional university in Fort Myers, FL. I have a close relationship with my daughters, a fact for which I am eminently proud.
